Winter Workshops at the Dublin City North Volunteer Centre

Following the success of last summer's workshop series, the Dublin City North Volunteer Centre is running a series of information workshops related to volunteering for organisations in its catchment area. This 6-week workshop series will begin the week of 17th February.
If you work for a ‘volunteer overseas sending’ organisation or co-ordinate volunteers in a local programme in the Dublin City North area, then these workshops are for you! These free workshops target local volunteer involving organisations and cover a wide range of topics, from garda vetting to engaging volunteers from different backgrounds.

Workshop series' aims:
The workshops aim to provide a platform where volunteer involving organisations from across the Dublin City North area can:
• meet and exchange information
• hear about other Volunteer programme experiences
• discuss a wide range of topics
• get to know the team in the Dublin City North Volunteer Centre
• find out more about what your local volunteer centre can do for you
• ask about support in solving problems
Benefits:
• This series of workshops will be an excellent knowledge resource for local organisations, a great opportunity for networking and will also help to enhance local groups’ knowledge of what other supports and services are available from their local volunteer centre.
• We will cover a wide range of topics, exploring best practice information and you will have the opportunity to get assistance in any questions you might have regarding the involvement of volunteers in the work of your organisation.
• You will have the opportunity to hear about what other organisations in the sector are doing in their volunteer programmes.

Workshop 1- Inclusive Volunteering

Diversity in volunteering means developing a varied team of volunteers which reflects the ethnic, cultural, language, mental or physical wellbeing and religious diversity of people in your community. During this session, we will explore how volunteer involving organisations can become more inclusive of all people in our community. We will also discuss Volunteering Ireland’s Charter for Effective Volunteering.
Workshop 2 - Garda Vetting

The issue of the protection of children and vulnerable adults is of paramount importance to ensure best practice in volunteering. Are you taking a proactive stance in safeguarding vulnerable adults and children? Safeguarding is beneficial in many ways – protecting the reputation of the organisation and its sponsors, helping to effectively meet its objectives. Come along to know more!
Workshop 3 – Dublin City Volunteer Week

Dublin City Volunteer Week is a week of events and festivities taking place throughout the city of Dublin to celebrate, recognize and ‘show-case’ the diverse and exciting ways in which the citizens of Dublin can and do engage with Volunteering. We will present the plans for Volunteer Week 2010, taking place between the 1st and the 7th June and discuss how you can contribute.
Workshop 4 – Introduction of DCNVC and PAVMI local

This is the third coffee morning of the PAVMI local north. If you are you interested in meeting with other Volunteer Managers, don’t miss this exciting opportunity! Whether you support volunteers in a paid or unpaid capacity you are very welcome. You may be the fundraising manager, communications director or a dedicated volunteer – everyone is welcome to come along for tea, coffee, treats and chats.
Workshop 5 – Volunteer Management Systems

Naoise McNally will introduce a new initiative by Volunteering Ireland called Ireland Involved Online. This web-based platform will offer each community or voluntary organisation a volunteer management system to assist volunteer managers coordinate and communicate
with volunteers, and a space online to advertise their events, activities and opportunities to get involved. The session will present volunteer managers with this new initiative and seek feedback on tailoring the system to meet needs of those in the community and voluntary sector.
Workshop 6 – Business and the Community working together

The main focus of the workshop will be to help community and voluntary groups to see that
funding, though important, is only one element of the potential resources available from
companies. And to help groups to consider how they can avail of other supports such as
skills transfers, access to facilities etc. Share information and experience and promote
effective cooperation between organisations and local companies in the Dublin City North
area.
Please note:
• There will be no cost involved for the individuals and/or organizations participating.
• Each session will start at 9am and finish around 12.30pm.
• Refreshments will be provided
• Volunteer Coordinators / people who work with volunteers in any capacity are encouraged to come.
