The Barretstown Gang Camp
Barretstown, at County Kildare, provides a medically-endorsed programme of arts, adventure and fun activities for children with cancer and other serious illnesses. By facing new challenges in a supportive environment, these children rediscover their self-esteem, improve their self-image and find new skills to help cope with their illness - all adding up to 'Serious Fun'. Volunteers are needed to organise and participate in a range of activities and to be responsible for the day-to-day care of the children.

Camphill Communities of Ireland
The Camphill Communities offer those in need of special care a sheltered environment in which their educational, therapeutic and social needs can be met. The nine communities in the Republic of Ireland were all founded through the initiative of parents of children with various disabilities and special needs. Each community has its own distinctive purpose and character. Volunteers who wish to get fully involved in the life of the community on a long term basis (usually 6 months - 1 year or more) are encouraged to apply. BALLYTOBIN: established in 1979 for children (now also adults) with multiple disabilities and disturbances, in a farm setting with family centred houses, in which children undertake a mixture of classroom work, art, craft and individual therapy.

Caring and Sharing Association
CASA run two breakhouses in Dublin, offering respite care to people with disability. CASA aim to provide a friendly, family-like atmosphere, where members with disability and volunteers partake in daily activities and social outings together. CASA require both short and long term volunteers, from two months to one year.

Conservation Services
Conservation Services aims to help protect and preserve our natural and built heritage through a range of services and products that add to both the conservation and enjoyment of our environment. Conservation Services leads residential volunteer conservation projects throughout Ireland from beach clean ups to habitat protection. There is no charge to volunteers, accommodation is provided for free in group lodging, with everybody chipping in for food.

Conservation Volunteers Ireland
CVI organises weekend and week-long conservation breaks throughout Ireland. Volunteers normally stay in hostel accommodation and undertake a range of practical conservation tasks, such as tree planting and dry stone walling. A cost of €40 upwards covers all transport, accommodation and food.

Glencree Centre for Reconciliation
This autonomous organisation seeks to work together with those trying to build peace. Volunteers usually come to Glencree for a year, starting in September, and undertake both practical work (in kitchen and garden, etc.) as well as programme work on peace issues and with community groups. Groundwork
Groundwork, a branch of the Irish Wildlife Trust, runs conservation work camps for volunteers aged 17 to 65 in national parks in Killarney (Co Kerry) and Glenveagh (Co Donegal). Work involves clearing non-native Rhododendron from ancient woodlands. Camps run between June and September; the cost of €20 (1 week) and €40 (2 weeks) covers accommodation and food.

Health Action Overseas
Health Action Overseas is an Irish NGO which runs training and therapy programmes for people with disabilities in Romania and special needs teacher training in China. JVC - Jesuit Volunteers
JVC offers those aged 20-35 the opportunity to work with marginalised members of society including young people at risk, homeless and disabled people, and those with addiction problems and HIV/AIDS. Knockadoon Camp
Knockadoon Camp was set up in 1926. It is a children's summer camp in Ballymocada, Co Cork, with a Catholic ethos. The camp is run solely by volunteers. Each week, it caters for around 100 children with their teachers and leaders, providing a venue where they can interact, learn and enjoy themselves.

L'Arche Communities
L'Arche is a worldwide federation of faith communities where people with and without learning disabilities live together. In l'Arche, joys are celebrated and struggles are experienced in a loving and caring way. Assistants are welcomed from every country, but applications from Ireland are needed in particular. People who are searching for a deeper meaning in their lives often come to l'Arche. They are attracted by community living and by a life where spirituality is central. Community living attracts them to a life where spirituality is central. Assistants soon discover the wisdom and unpretentiousness of the person with a learning disability. L'Arche is a challenging place to live; personal illusions and weaknesses are confronted and strengths are built upon. The communities are Roman Catholic in identity, but welcome people of all denominations and those with no religious affiliation. There is also a L'Arche community in Belfast.

Lucan Youth Centre
The residential Lucan Youth Centre is owned by the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. Its major emphasis is reconciliation between young people of different religious/cultural traditions. Simon Community
Simon has communities in Cork, Dublin, Dundalk and Galway, providing emergency shelters and long-term residential houses for homeless people. Sisters of Our Lady of Sion
The Sisters of Sion are a religious group of Roman Catholic women whose vocation is to promote understanding between Christians and Jews. WWOOF
WWOOF promotes and shares knowledge of organic methods and related skills, to encourage sustainable living and healthier lifestyles. Volunteers aged over 18 engage in a full time and sometimes heavy workload, but receive wholesome meals and somewhere to sleep. WWOOF is open all year and there are around 80 farms. It is an ideal opportunity to make new friends and partake in a range of farming / gardening activities. The subscription fee is E15. Length of stay ranges from a weekend to over a month.
